Distaff Day

Today is "Distaff Day". I think when we get moved, I want this to be the day when I take down the Christmas decorations. This was the day when women resumed their household work after the 12 Days of Christmas.

Typically, back then, it was the day that the women went back to spinning on the wheel, and it was named as such for the distaff, or rock, used in spinning.

Around this time, Men also celebrated "Plough Monday" in which they would get back to work plowing the fields.
